Dharwad: A 32-year-old employee of the Khadi and Village Industries Department allegedly attempted suicide by slashing his hand with a knife at the deputy commissioner’s office premises here on Monday.
The employee, identified as Shivaprasad Patil, was found lying unconscious on the staircase of the DC’s office building with a deep cut on his hand and severe bleeding. According to sources, he allegedly inflicted the injury on himself and lost consciousness due to excessive blood loss.
Staff members who noticed him on the staircase immediately alerted officials and shifted him to the District Hospital for treatment.
The incident falls under the jurisdiction of Dharwad Suburban police station. The motive behind the alleged suicide attempt was not immediately known.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
