Dharwad: The Separate Corporation for Dharwad Struggle Committee may have to wait longer to see its long-pending demand fulfilled, with the state government citing the ongoing Census process as a hurdle to issuing the final notification
During Question Hour in the ongoing Assembly session, Dharwad Rural MLA Vinay Kulkarni sought an update on the government’s efforts to bifurcate the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation. However, Urban Development Minister Yatindra Siddaramaiah’s response has disappointed activists, as he cited technical restrictions arising from the Census-2027 process for the delay in issuing the final notification.
In his reply, Dr Yatindra said, “As the process of the National Census-2027 is currently underway across the country, there is no provision to alter the boundaries of local bodies after December 31, 2025. Therefore, it has not been possible to finalise the proposal to bifurcate the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation and create a separate Dharwad Municipal Corporation.”
