Karnataka Chief Minister Vijay has urged the Union government to use the 1971 Census as the basis for delimitation, retain the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats for the next 25 years, and accommodate women’s reservation within the existing seats.
He argued that this approach would help protect the political representation of states that have successfully controlled population growth while ensuring a balanced and fair representation system. The proposal has sparked discussion about the future of parliamentary representation and the impact of delimitation on different states.
